About the role
We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer within the Products division. You will join a team passionate about pushing the boundaries of engineering to develop the next generation of onsite safety & monitoring equipment deployed in extreme environments. This role is intellectually challenging; the product and technology are innovative and ground‑breaking, requiring a critical thinker.
Responsibilities include independent design project leadership, sound engineering judgment, and technical oversight across development and sustaining activities. You’ll combine hands‑on design with system‑level thinking, supporting new product development, optimisation, and iteration of existing concepts.
Key Responsibilities
 * Lead full‑cycle design: requirements capture, CAD modelling, calculations, tolerance analysis
 * Prototype, assemble, and validate performance
 * Oversee qualification testing for environmental and field compliance
 * Manage BOMs, ECNs, QA records, and specifications in line with QMS
 * Ensure adherence to industry standards and internal processes
 * Drive design improvements based on field feedback and production issues
 * Conduct structured root‑cause analysis and implement corrective actions
 * Liaise with electronics, software, production, and sales teams
 * Provide technical input to customer queries, proposals, and tenders
 * Mentor junior engineers and contribute to design reviews
 * Promote a culture of professionalism, flexibility, and high standards
Required skills
 * Minimum of 8 years’ industry experience post‑graduation in high‑tech, complex technology
 * 2:1 or higher BEng/MEng in Mechanical, Aerospace, Automotive, Aeronautical or Mechatronics Engineering
 * Fluency with 3D CAD tools (preferably Autodesk Inventor)
 * Engineering calculations including pressure containment, mechanical strength, and thermal performance
 * Proactive attitude with the ability to self‑manage and lead without instruction
 * Experience managing technical documents and change control in a PLM system
Desired skills
 * Familiarity with design for manufacture (DfM) and design for assembly (DfA)
 * Exposure to oilfield tool design, high‑pressure environments, and material selection for harsh environments
 * FEA, material selection for harsh environments
 * Hands‑on prototyping or workshop experience
 * Background from automotive, energy, or defence sector (not essential)
