We are currently looking for an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Fitter to join our friendly team based at our Bayston Hill Quarry site, close to Shrewsbury in Shropshire. This role is shift based including days and nights and is easily commutable from Telford, Bridgnorth, Oswestry, Welshpool, Wolverhampton and the surrounding areas.

Main Responsibilities
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Mechanical Maintenance Fitter role will require key skills including working at heights, confined pace, hot works operations and will also be responsible for:
1. Responding to plant breakdowns – ensuring assets are returned to productionin a timely manner, and temporary fixes are followed up with a permanent solution
2. Undertaking emergency breakdown repairs in a timely and efficient way on all production equipment
3. Owning small scale projects and delivering them in a pragmatic and proactive manner
4. Taking a cost conscious approach to maintenance activities
5. Coordinating with contractors and suppliers when they are on site
6. Participating in root cause analysis so repeat failures can be eliminated
7. Contributing to the continuous improvement of the engineering function through your own observations and experience
8. Welding and Fabricating to a good standard
9. Working with risk assessments and method statements
10. Contributing to the preparation and development of safe working methods for repair procedures
11. Maintaining and promoting Health & Safety rules and regulations, following all company processes and procedures.
12. Challenging unsafe conditions and practices, reporting these through company procedures
13. Utilising the computerised maintenance management system and recording all work including fault descriptions, spares used and repairs carried out
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for the role of Mechanical Maintenance Fitter will be self-motivated, enthusiastic and able to work with minimal supervision. You should also demonstrate proven experience working within an Industrial, Factory or similar environment. Suitable candidates for the role of Mechanical Maintenance Fitter will:
14. Have a recognised apprenticeship (preferably a higher-level standard)
15. ONC/HNC (desirable but not essential)
16. Have a strong, practical mechanical systems background, heavy industry preferred - conveyors, drive systems – motors, belts, pumps, gearboxes, crushers, vibratory screens
17. Have experience in repairing but not limited to pulleys, bearings, shafts, gearboxes, pneumatics, hydraulics,conveyor rollers and side skirts
18. Possess a fault-finding ability to identify defects and recommend appropriate action
19. Possess the ability to remove and fit bearings
20. Have experience in fabrication workshop and the hazard apposed along with lifting and lowering equipment and techniques
21. Be capable of undertaking emergency breakdown repairs in a timely and efficient manner on all production equipment
22. IT literate - capable of using PCs, common applications and company systems
23. Ability to assess SHE risks arising from work activities and control risks accordingly
24. Knowledge of material handling equipment,site-specific SHE procedures and Safe Working Practices is preferred
