Role: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Level 1–3)

Salary: £52,000 - £69,000 (DOE)
We're working with a respected consultancy looking to expand their mechanical design team across multiple seniority levels. Whether you're stepping up into a senior role or already leading complex design packages, this is a fantastic opportunity to work on high-quality, sustainability-led building services projects across the UK and Ireland.
What you'll be doing:
* Taking ownership of mechanical design packages for sectors like commercial, healthcare, education, and industrial
* Designing mechanical systems including HVAC, LTHW/CHW, VRF, domestic hot/cold water, and renewable technologies (e.g., heat pumps, CHP)
* Carrying out detailed mechanical calculations — ductwork, pipework, pumps, fans, and plant selection
* Producing schematics, layouts, technical drawings, and specifications using industry-standard software
* Coordinating with other disciplines (electrical, public health, structural, architectural) to deliver fully integrated designs
* Attending client meetings, technical reviews, and supporting site visits and inspections
* Supporting or mentoring junior engineers depending on your experience level
What we're looking for:
* 5–10+ years of UK-based experience in mechanical building services design (depending on level)
* Strong understanding of CIBSE Guides, Building Regulations Part L, and BREEAM/LEED principles
* Hands-on experience with:
* Hevacomp for HVAC/load sizing
* IES VE for thermal modelling and compliance
* Revit MEP / MagiCAD for 3D design and BIM coordination
* AutoCAD for 2D layouts/schematics
* Microsoft Excel and in-house tools for calculations
* Proven ability to deliver coordinated designs across project stages
* Excellent communication skills — verbal, written, and visual
* A degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering
* Chartered or working towards CEng with CIBSE or IMechE
Bonus if you have
* Knowledge of lifecycle carbon analysis (e.g., CIBSE TM65)
* Experience working on projects in Ireland (TGD Part L)
* Experience with commissioning and site support
* Understanding of RIBA stages and BIM Level 2 (ISO 19650)
