About the Role
Vallum Associates is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Compliance Manager to lead our UK and international compliance efforts. This pivotal role ensures our operations remain fully compliant across all regions in which we operate. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of contractor and permanent recruitment compliance, international employment law, and risk management. You will play a central role in shaping, managing, and maintaining our global compliance framework.
Responsibilities
1. Design, implement, and manage comprehensive compliance policies and procedures for both contractor and permanent recruitment, aligned with local and international regulations.
2. Monitor global legal and regulatory developments, ensuring timely updates to internal practices across all workforce models.
3. Lead internal audits and manage external inspections to ensure operational compliance across both contractor and permanent placements.
4. Oversee right-to-work checks, background screening, and document verification for all candidates.
5. Ensure adherence to regulatory frameworks such as GDPR, IR35, AWR, and international equivalents, with particular focus on contract workforce models (e.g., umbrella companies, PSCs).
6. Provide ongoing compliance guidance to consultants, senior management, and international partners.
7. Deliver tailored training programmes on compliance best practices for both permanent and contract recruitment teams.
8. Maintain strong working relationships with legal advisers, regulators, and industry bodies.
9. Support compliance assessments and the development of frameworks for entry into new markets and jurisdictions.
10. Produce regular compliance reports for senior leadership and key stakeholders.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a compliance role within a recruitment or staffing environment, with a focus on international markets and both contractor and permanent hiring models.
Knowledge of global employment law, immigration processes, and multi-jurisdictional recruitment compliance.
Demonstrable experience managing compliance within contract/temporary workforce models, including risk mitigation strategies.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
Highly organised, analytical, and detail-oriented.
* Legal or paralegal background.
* Experience in the energy, infrastructure, or technology recruitment sectors.
* Familiarity with compliance systems and CRMs (e.g., Bullhorn, Vincere).
* Exposure to high-risk or complex regulatory environments.
