Child Counselling-Informed Teaching Assistant
Frequency: Part-Time or Full Time
Location: BS4 – Brislington, Knowle, St. Annes, Totterdown
Teaching Personnel is seeking a Teaching Assistant with a background in child counselling, mental‑health support, or therapeutic work.
This role is ideal for someone passionate about helping children overcome emotional barriers to learning. You will work with pupils who may present with SEN, anxiety, low self-esteem, attachment needs, or behavioural challenges. You will be providing calm, consistent, and nurturing support so they can fully engage in school life.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide 1:1 and small‑group emotional support.
• Help children develop resilience, confidence, emotional regulation, and healthy coping skills.
• Support pupils with SEN or SEMH needs both inside and outside the classroom.
• Work alongside teachers, the SENCO and pastoral team to implement personalised support plans.
• Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to help them feel safe and understood.
• Track and record progress, behaviours, and key interactions.
• Contribute to a calm, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
Desirable Experience & Skills:
• Experience in child counselling, youth counselling, mental-health support, or therapeutic interventions.
• Understanding of trauma‑informed or nurture-based approaches.
• Experience supporting children with SEN such as ASD, ADHD, SEMH, or communication needs.
• Ability to remain calm, patient, and grounded when pupils become dysregulated.
• Knowledge of Makaton, PECs, or visual communication tools (advantageous, not essential).
• Strong relationship-building skills and a compassionate, non-judgemental approach.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
