BEAR Scotland is a leading provider of road maintenance and management services, proudly responsible for the upkeep and enhancement of the country’s vital trunk road network — including bridges and key infrastructure — across some of the most scenic and challenging terrain in the UK.
Since 2000 we have been involved in five generations of Transport Scotland Trunk Road Operating Company contracts covering various areas of Scotland and are presently responsible for approximately 60% of Scotland’s trunk road network. This includes the North West and South East Scottish Trunk Road Units & M80 DBFO and A92 DBFO.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Chartered Health & Safety Advisor to join our existing team, based in our Head Office in Perth. Reporting to the Health, Safety & Risk Manager, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of an effective Health and Safety management system ensuring that the business complies with all Health and Safety Legal and Other requirements and maintaining certification to ISO 45001:2018 for all business processes.
You’ll report directly to our Health & Safety Manager and benefit from structured training designed to support your career growth within this role.
Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for maintenance of the BEAR Scotland Health & Safety Legal and Other Requirements Register
2. Development of processes and systems to provide an effective Health & Safety system maintaining certification to ISO 45001:2018
3. To represent BEAR Scotland on all Health & Safety matters to external organisations
4. Conduct internal audits and Health & Safety compliance reviews
5. Maintain Health & Safety Incident Database and Investigation process
6. Prepare reports, statistics and award submissions
7. Deliver inductions for supply chain and clients
8. Create and issue Management System Alerts
9. Coordinate HSE Committee Activities and represent H&S in Joint Ventures
10. Liaise with regulators and external authorities
11. Develop and Deliver Internal H&S Training
12. Conduct regular site and depot visits (2 days per week)
13. Review and engage with supply chain and PPE Providers quarterly
14. Participate in document reviews and management system updates
15. Provide data for Health and Safety Management Reviews
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
16. A full approved UK driving licence
17. Chartered Member of IOSH
18. Lead Auditor qualification (Minimum of one Discipline)
19. Working knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and NHSS
20. Strong Microsoft Office Skills
21. Excellent communication and organisational skills
22. Self-motivated with effective time management
23. Experience in Road Maintenance and Traffic Management (Chapter 8)
