Research Assistant
Starting Salary £30,911 - £35,346 per annum
Fixed Term, 2 years
MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK

We are recruiting a research assistant to work with Dr Emmanuel Derivery’s group studying the molecular mechanisms of receptor sorting in endosomes. The aim is to assist in the design, production and characterization of a panel of de-novo designed binders to be used either as biosensors to image the sorting of endogenous cargos in cells by state-of-the-art multispectral microscopy, or as modulators of specific activities of sorting machineries to infer molecular mechanisms.

Your responsibilities will include all steps of binder production, labelling and characterization i.e. cloning, protein expression, protein purification, protein labelling with organic dyes. They will also involve the characterization of the binding of proteins for their targets, and the physiological consequences of such binding. You will work as a team with other members of the Derivery group.

Applicants should have a BSc or higher level qualification in a relevant field of science or engineering. Experience in one or more of the following areas would be an advantage: molecular biology, cell culture and protein expression and purification.

The LMB has a collaborative working culture and state-of-the-art building based on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. We have on-site parking, cycle enclosures and excellent public transport links to the site. We have a staff restaurant with roof terrace, on-site nursery, sports and social facilities. You will be eligible to join our defined benefit pension scheme with an employer contribution of 16%, holiday entitlement of 40.5 days (including bank holidays and privilege days) and a generous employee discount scheme. We are also committed to providing training and development opportunities including support towards role-related qualifications.

The LMB is a world-class research institute within UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). UKRI is nine research councils, working together across all disciplines and sectors. More information can be found at www.ukri.org and www.mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk.
