Role Purpose: The Technical Systems Manager is responsible for ensuring that all products, processes, and systems within the food manufacturing environment meet legal, customer, and certification standards. This role combines leadership of technical services activities with hands-on responsibility for documentation, audits, and compliance systems. The position plays a key part in supplier and customer technical relationships, food safety, and quality assurance, while driving continuous improvement across the business Key Responsibilities: Responsible for the maintenance and development of the QMS & HACCP in line with corporate, statutory, Company and Customer standards and requirements Collaborate with Bury St Edmunds and Middleton Technical Manager to ensure alignment and compliance where possible, share best practices Ensure the provision of timely, accurate and appropriate “Management Information” to key stakeholders. Responsible for site audit standards including the hosting of customer audits (BRC, Customers, Organic, EHO etc.) Responsible for the management of services provided and effective correct action where required i.e. site pest control, thermal processing, water testing, equipment calibration and nutritional testing etc. Complete customer technical requirements, including site specific specifications, questionnaires, and information requests Complete complaint investigations and root cause analysis, reporting outcomes to stakeholders and driving corrective actions. Deliver training and guidance to site teams on technical, quality, and food safety matters. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Operations, Procurement, NPD, Commercial) to embed technical standards and Quality Culture into business practices Candidate requirements Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, or a related field, OR equivalent industry experience. Experience in a technical, quality, or compliance role within the food industry (5 years). Strong working knowledge of HACCP, allergen management, traceability, and food safety systems. Proven involvement in BRCGS, ISO, or major retailer audit processes. Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, both internally and externally. Desirable Skills Experience with retailer technical systems and customer audits. Knowledge of labelling legislation, nutrition, and allergen management. Familiarity with continuous improvement tools and root cause analysis techniques.
