Purpose of the Role
As a Single / Multi Skilled Engineer operating from a well‑established Hatchery, you will optimise machinery output and product quality, minimise plant downtime through effective preventative maintenance and efficient response, and maintain a safe and healthy working environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out planned preventive maintenance and breakdown/reactive maintenance of plant, equipment and incubators.
* Ensure engineering maintenance is performed in line with the current schedule and that corrective actions are taken efficiently.
* Respond quickly to breakdowns, identify root causes and suggest improvements to prevent recurrence.
* Communicate unscheduled breakdowns to management and work with process departments to minimise plant disruption.
* Record and identify spare parts used and report to Engineering Team Leader.
* Follow good engineering and hygiene standards throughout the site.
* Ensure maintenance practices are audit compliant and within company, legislative, health and safety, and environmental guidelines.
* Carry out regular calibrations of process weigher and liquid meter (Weights and Measures Act).
* Operate safely in hazardous environments (hot working, WAH).
* Participate in mechanical projects and installations – conveyors, machine installs, refurbishments.
* Participate in electrical projects and installations.
* Operate effluent plant systems efficiently, ensuring environmental compliance.
* Understand and manage fire suppression systems – fire trace, sprinkler, hydrant.
* Demonstrate understanding of environmental impacts.
Requirements & Qualifications
* Time served multi‑skilled apprenticeship in a relevant engineering discipline.
* Proactive and dynamic approach to safety.
* Good diagnostic and problem‑solving skills.
* Ability to work under pressure with high attention to detail.
* Flexibility, positive attitude, and ability to work well within a very small team.
* Food manufacture experience desirable.
* IEE standards (17th or 18th Edition) desirable.
* Pneumatic experience desirable.
Hours of Work
05:30 – 13:30 & 09:30 – 17:30 in a 2‑week rotation; averages 44.57 hours per week. A call‑out rota requires a 24‑hour response service for 1 week in a 7‑week rotation.
