We have a fantastic opportunity for a detail driven‑ Senior Process Engineer (Hydrogen – Asset Integrity & Compliance) to join our close‑knit, dynamic team and act as technical authority for a new hydrogen facility. You’ll champion DSEAR, ATEX/UKEX, IEC/BS EN 60079, PSSR and COMAH compliance, lead HAZID/HAZOP/LOPA, and drive performance through robust mass & energy balances, relief sizing and operating envelope optimisation. If shaping safe, reliable, future ready hydrogen operations excites you, we’d‑ love to hear from you today.
Key responsibilities:
* Lead process design for hydrogen production, purification, storage, compression and dispensing systems.
* Develop asset strategies, criticality assessments and long‑term lifecycle plans.
* Improve plant performance through operating envelope optimisation and reliability tracking.
* Produce operating manuals, SOPs, alarm/trip philosophies and commissioning documentation.
* Manage technical changes under MOC, ensuring risk evaluation and regulatory compliance.
* Build process models and simulations for design, troubleshooting and optimisation.
* Review supplier packages, datasheets and engineering deliverables for design assurance.
* Support construction and ensure alignment with hazardous‑area and pressure‑equipment requirements.
* Participate in commissioning, validate systems and capture lessons learned.
* Provide operational troubleshooting, root‑cause investigations and optimisation support.
* Define maintenance inputs such as SIL proof tests, inspection intervals and spares.
* Prepare capex/opex budgets, investment plans and maintain compliance with hydrogen‑specific standards.
Knowledge & technical know‑how:
* Hydrogen properties and hazards (per ISO/TR 15916); strong fundamentals in heat/mass transfer, thermodynamics, separations, reaction engineering and fluid dynamics.
* Working knowledge of COMAH, DSEAR, and hydrogen standards (ISO 22734 for electrolysers; ISO 19880‑1 for fuelling).
* Understanding of advanced process control and digitalisation (APC, real‑time optimisation,
Skills and Experience:
* Expert delivery and review of PFDs, P&IDs, datasheets and simulations; strong process‑safety capability including HAZOP leadership and hazard analysis.
* Clear communicator with excellent cross‑functional coordination (design, operations, maintenance, SHEQ) and strong technical decision‑making with MOC governance.
* Proficiency with Aspen HYSYS, UniSim or gPROMS; experience in digital commissioning, data analytics and performance monitoring; mentoring of junior engineers.
* Minimum of 5 years in hydrogen, chemical, refining, energy, gas processing or similar high‑hazard industries.
* Proven delivery from FEED through detailed design, construction and commissioning.
* Demonstrable strong track record in operations support and reliability improvement.
* Exposure to COMAH safety reports, SIL determination or hydrogen‑specific systems (electrolyser/storage/compression/dispensing).
Qualifications:
* BEng/MEng in Chemical/Process Engineering (or related).
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards (IChemE preferred).
