We're seeking an experienced finance professional (you could be a Finance BP, Controller or FD/CFO) to help lead our animal welfare charity through a strategic review and the modernisation and professionalisation of our operations, our finance management, and risk management.

By bringing senior financial expertise, you will ensure our board navigates our proposed upcoming corporate restructuring (Trading Company, segmented P&Ls) with confidence. Your oversight will protect the Sanctuary's assets and reputation, ensuring that every donation is used effectively to support our core purpose of animal rescue and protection.
What are we looking for?
Strategic Financial Leadership We are looking for a senior finance professional, such as a CFO, Finance Director, or Financial Controller, with extensive experience in establishing robust internal financial controls and segmented P&L reporting.
Technical Expertise The ideal candidate must be a Chartered Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or ICAS) with the ability to advise on complex tax structures and the potential creation of a trading subsidiary to manage commercial boarding income.
Governance & Risk Experience in charity finance or SME turnaround is highly desirable, specifically the ability to identify, monitor, and control key financial risks during a period of organisational change.
Most Important Skills Financial strategy, systems implementation (payroll/audit), and a commitment to Nolan's seven principles of public life.
Desirable Experience with SORP and FRS 102 reporting standards.

Implement Segmented Reporting Establish a segmented P&L model to differentiate between charitable rescue and commercial boarding operations.
Commercial & Tax Advisory Provide expert guidance on the potential creation of a trading subsidiary to ensure total compliance with HMRC and Charity Commission tax regulations.
Modernise Financial Systems Modernise internal financial controls, moving from manual processes toward professionalised payroll, audit, and restricted fund accounting.
Lead SORP 2026 Readiness Drive the organisational transition toward the new SORP 2026 reporting standards, ensuring our financial narratives and data structures meet the highest sector requirements.
Statutory Audit Preparation Facilitate our readiness for independent statutory audits, including the implementation of "mock audit" cycles to verify the integrity of our internal controls.
Strategic Risk Management Form and Chair our Finance and Risk Sub-Committee and act as a strategic partner to the Board, ensuring our mission is protected by robust financial resilience.
