team as a Research Nurse, based at Newham University Hospital..
This role will focus on developing and expanding our research delivery at Newham University Hospital. As a Research Nurse, you will be responsible for clinically managing and delivering your own portfolio of research studies across a range of specialty areas, while also providing research support to investigators. The role offers the opportunity to broaden your clinical knowledge and skills across a variety of conditions, working closely with consultants, specialist nurses, and wider multidisciplinary teams. You will be expected to uphold the highest standards of care for patients and research participants, ensuring all activity complies with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), ethical requirements, and regulatory frameworks, while contributing to the visibility and growth of research across Newham University Hospital and our community.
Main duties of the job
The Research Nurse is an independent practitioner working within the multi-disciplinary team.
The post holder will take responsibility for the coordination and management of clinical studies/trials covering a broad clinical research portfolio. Responsibilities will include education of patients and colleagues, coordination of care of patients on trials, collection and preparation of biological samples, collection and input of trial data. The post holder will be expected to develop specialised skills and knowledge relating to the conduct of clinical trials and the treatment and management of the relevant patient populations. The post holder will be expected to have sufficient skills to enable patients to make informed choices concerning their involvement in clinical trials by providing advice and information and acting as the patient’s advocate. The post may require cross-site working, travel to external meetings and a willingness to work flexible hours on occasion, to meet the needs of the service.

Essential criteria
1. Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
2. Evidence of continuous professional development
3. Intravenous accreditation
4. Phlebotomy and Cannulation accreditation
Desirable criteria
5. Teaching/Mentorship Course
6. Educated to degree level
7. ALS/ILS/APLS or equivalent
Knowledge
Essential criteria
8. Knowledge of data protection and GDPR, participant confidentiality requirements, and Caldicott Guidelines.
9. Demonstrate an understanding of The NHS Long Term Plan and NHS England’s Research and Innovation Strategy, and their relevance to clinical trials in the UK
Desirable criteria
10. Applied knowledge of ICH GCP and regulations governing the conduct of clinical trials in the UK
11. Knowledge and understanding of the clinical trials process, and the handling of clinical data
