Job Purpose
To perform physiotherapy assessment of patients with neurological presentations on the Stroke and neuro rehabilitation pathways, develop and deliver an individualised treatment program. Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to facilitate positive rehab outcomes and timely, co‑ordinated discharge planning. Fully support initiatives to reduce length of stay, including key working. Work flexibly, providing support on other rehabilitation wards when necessary. Hold responsibility for own caseload, working with and without direct supervision. Provide support for the clinical supervision of a rotational Band 5 physiotherapist, student physiotherapists and give direction to members of support staff. Undertake evidence‑based audit and research projects to inform practice within the unit. Participate in a 7‑day service covering weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis.
Responsibilities
* Perform specialist physiotherapy assessment for stroke and patients with neurological conditions.
* Independently manage own clinical caseload, undertake comprehensive neurological assessments and use advanced clinical reasoning skills to formulate and deliver individual and group treatment programmes.
* Work alongside the Highly Specialist Neuro physiotherapy team lead with complex patients, responsible for providing specialist physiotherapy assessment and treatment plans.
* Advise and educate patients and their families/carers on the management of individual problems.
* Assess patient understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid and informed consent and work within a legal framework with patients who lack the capacity to consent.
* Work effectively with patients whose first language is not English and take into consideration diversity issues, including cultural awareness.
* Support the clinical supervision of a rotational Band 5 physiotherapist, student physiotherapists and give direction to support staff.
