We have an exciting opportunity to join our short breaks service as a Care Officer. As we continue to progress our transformational improvement journey, we can offer 2 part time posts 25 hours per week.

This is a varied role where no two days will be the same. Working to various shift patterns, there is the requirement to undertake weekend working evenings on a rota.

You will be supporting children with additional needs to access a wide range of activities within the community. This may include aspects of domiciliary care.

We are looking for new colleagues who are passionate about spending meaningful time with children and young people in the community and within their homes and championing their welfare, potential and aspirations.

You will need to be approachable, resilient and adaptive to the needs of young people.

About the Role

Our Short Break Service’ provides a care service to children & young people diagnosed with special educational needs, disabilities and complex health needs, between the ages of 0 – 18 years.

We provide domiciliary care within children’s own homes and support out in the local community in accessing local activities. We need people with the ability to demonstrate a positive approach to the needs of disabled children and young people, who have the ability to work flexibly to meet their needs. Our shifts can be split, meaning you may work for 1-2 hours in a morning and then be back on shift in an afternoon/evening. As the majority of our client base are school aged, the hours worked will generally take place before & after school times, and over a weekend.

We need people who can nurture, care and listen to the young people they care for. You will be given lots of training to therapeutically work with our young people. You will work as part of a dedicated, caring team as well as lone working. We want people with empathy to develop their skills and excel in their career. It is a challenging role as our children and young people can display emotional and behavioural difficulties.

Our Purpose

To provide children and young people with a range of services in the community & direct care that is of an excellent standard and that is nurturing and loving ensuring all aspects of their physical, educational, intellectual, emotional and social needs are met.

Your Role

* Enabling our children to enjoy and cherish a wide range of positive experiences and childhood memories, provided by a dedicated team that are passionate about improving life opportunities for children.
* Responsible for providing age-appropriate advice, help and guidance for children and families in relation to disabilities, behavioural difficulties and other vulnerabilities.
* Responsible for ensuring that the provision of services and records, both manual and electronic are maintained strictly in accordance with directorate policy and legislation.
* Responsible for writing, submitting, contributing reports & attending necessary child/yp meetings and reviews.
* Responsible for implementing a care plan ensuring a child’s primary care needs, including dispensing and recording medications while maintaining accurate records and reports in line with current legislative and care standards.
* Responsible for providing personal care, including (but not limited to) showering, toileting and oral hygiene while also supporting with mobility issues and transfers using appropriate equipment. Will undertake relevant training in relation to gastronomy, oxygen therapy, moving and handling, epilepsy.
* Safeguard and promote the welfare of all children within the local community
* Act as an appropriate role model to help our children achieve their optimum potential.
* Enable our children to live a life that ensures their individual voice is not only heard, but listened to, valued, respected and promoted with professionals across services and the rights of children are promoted to the best standard.
* Provide children with the best possible health and wellbeing care and support.

About You

We are seeking candidates who are passionate about caring for children and who are determined to ensure that our children achieve the best possible outcomes.

You will be highly motivated and ambitious about caring for our children. You will need a good level of written report writing skills and have clear communication skills to communicate with children, colleagues and partner agencies.

You will be highly organised with a willingness to work flexibly to meet the needs of our children. This post carries a requirement to work weekends and evenings as part of a rolling rota pattern.
