Acute Oncology (AOS) Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS)

Responsibilities
* Provide specialist nursing advice and support for patients with a cancer diagnosis or suspicion throughout investigation, diagnosis, treatment and transition to palliative care.
* Assess oncology patients in the emergency department, acute oncology assessment unit and across wards.
* Support the Lead Acute Oncology Service (AOS) Nurse to deliver and evaluate service.
* Provide AOS CNS support to multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) at North Middlesex Hospital.
* Collaborate with key MDT members to support staff in delivering specialised care.
* Work autonomously to deliver evidence‑based specialist care that enhances patient quality.
* Scope and seek support and education to extend the role with additional skills.
* Review patients daily admitted to wards and the emergency department.
* Support the ED to ensure patients with suspected neutropenia receive antibiotics within door‑to‑needle time.
* Operate the AOS emergency phone, triage calls, advise correspondingly, and coordinate follow‑up with the patient's oncology team.
* Contribute to training and education within the specialist area for multidisciplinary groups.
* Act as the MSCC coordinator and ensure patients with suspected or confirmed MSCC receive care per NICE guidance and local policy.
* Lead and facilitate audits of AOS and MSCC, applying audit and research evidence‑based practice.
* Promote innovation and continuous improvement in patient care by reviewing evidence and embedding findings into practice through research engagement.
* Communicate with clinical, operational, information and administrative staff across all levels of seniority within the acute Trust.
* May require working at other sites within the Trust.
