Job Description:
We are seeking a qualified Solicitor with substantial experience in this legal area. This role offers an opportunity to develop and enhance your skills through engaging and varied work.
You will work as part of a team of Contract Lawyers, providing proactive legal advice on issues such as Public Contract Regulations, Company law, Subsidy Control, NEC and JCT construction Contracts, and general contract queries. You will handle a full and demanding caseload.
Senior Lawyers will play an active role in team management, deputising for the Principal Solicitor, and contributing to the delivery of high-quality legal services.
We are looking for an effective, dynamic individual with some experience in managing and supervising others, who can motivate team members and work collaboratively.
Shortlisting Criteria
* You are a Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of CILEX, eligible to practice in England and Wales, with a current practicing certificate.
* Experience in negotiating and drafting construction contracts, service agreements, and facilities management services.
* Ability to provide solutions-focused advice and learn quickly about new subjects.
* Effective team working skills, managing priorities to meet statutory deadlines.
* Experience in leading and contributing to client and project meetings, with excellent client care and organisational skills.
* Advising Members and Senior Officers of the Council.
The role is hybrid, with remote work considered. Occasional office attendance may be required, and the candidate will need to collect their laptop from our Reigate office on their first day.
The role involves managing a team of lawyers, providing leadership, supervision, and expert legal advice to the County Council, its members, officers, and committees.
You will contribute to the wider management of Legal Services, embodying the council's values and behaviours.
You will manage a varied caseload, delivering innovative solutions with minimal supervision.
The role also involves supporting and managing team resources to reduce reliance on external legal support, and undertaking advocacy when required.
You will support the Monitoring Officer in advising the Council on illegality or procedural issues and contribute to staff training on legal matters.
