The Role in a Nutshell

We are looking for an experienced Credit Controller to join the Sustainable Energy First Finance Team, reporting into the Financial Operations Manager and working alongside other Finance colleagues who will provide support to the credit control function as needed.

The successful candidate will be responsible for employing a variety of credit control techniques to maximise the Company's cash position through the successful collection of customer balances. The role holder will be expected to report on aged balances and use their experience to offer insights into the risk profile of customer balances.

You'll need excellent communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to build effective relationships with customers, internal stakeholders and colleagues across the Finance, Commercial and Operations teams. You'll need the ability to work as part of a team whilst also being able to work independently when necessary.

Requirements

Credit Control & Collections

Pro-actively manage the aged debtor ledger to ensure timely payment of invoices

Contact customers by phone and email to chase overdue balances in a professional and effective manner

Resolve invoice and account queries in collaboration with internal teams (e.g., Billing, Account Management, Operations etc.)

Monitor customer risk profiles and flag potential issues early

Utilise external debt collection agencies / solicitors as appropriate, in line with company policy

Reporting

Produce regular aged debt reports for management with meaningful and timely commentary

Highlight collection risks, late-paying customers, and trends that require attention

Contribute to the regular calculation of the provision for doubtful debts

Participate in regular calls with management to provide a credit control update and identify required actions

Key ingredients for the role

Demonstrable Experience: A proven track record of strong credit control performance with a good understanding of the tools and techniques available.

Organisational Skills: Be a self-starter who can work independently, prioritise tasks and demonstrate control over your workload and time.

Commercial Awareness: Have an understanding of the general economic and business environment and be able to assess customer communications against this backdrop in order to understand the recoverability of customer balances and highlight potential risks.

Confident Communicator: Able to develop and maintain effective relationships with people, internal and external, irrespective of their seniority. Adept at communicating both verbally and in written form, ensuring that messages are delivered concisely yet effectively.

Team Player: Understand the importance of supporting colleagues to consistently deliver team objectives. Good attitude and willingness to help.

Benefits

Salary: £30,000 to £40,000 per annum

Holidays: 25 days + bank holidays + your birthday off, increasing to 30 days on length of service
