We are rated good overall by the CQC, with some outstanding services. The service is designed to offer direct support to adult acute mental health patients. This role is based on one of our male acute wards and focuses on the assessment, therapeutic interventions and delivery of care to meet national recommendations to support patients to be discharged back into the community. This is a great opportunity to shape the service and build on MDT working, alongside the Ward Manager and other senior leaders. The service has a large OT group that will support your development and provide clinical supervision (and preceptorship if needed). The post is 37.5 hours per week, between Monday and Sunday, with shifts of 7.5 hours (early and late shifts). Patterns of work can be discussed on recruitment.

Responsibilities
* Provide occupational assessment and treatment on the ward using a range of interventions based on the recovery philosophy and the Model of Human Occupation.
* Work with the wider MDT to deliver safe and effective discharge planning back into the community.
* Contribute to developing the occupational therapy service on the ward and collaborate with an innovative and forward-thinking ethos.
* Engage in professional development with support from the large OT group, including clinical supervision and optional preceptorship.
* Adhere to policies and philosophy of the service and maintain a person-centred approach to assessment and treatment, ensuring gender, sexual orientation, ethnic, cultural and spiritual needs are respected.
* Promote social inclusion, independence and autonomy, and sustain respectful, therapeutic relationships with service users and partners.
* Work within legal requirements relevant to occupational therapy (e.g., Mental Health Act, Human Rights Act, Disability Discrimination Act) and follow child and adult protection procedures.
* Monitor personal practice and maintain Health Professions Council registration; engage in ongoing professional development to ensure best practice.
* Identify and manage risks in inpatient settings and utilise local support systems (e.g., manual handling, violence and aggression management, lone worker policy).
Qualifications and Skills
* Ability to work independently to develop and deliver an Occupational Therapy service on the ward for inpatients, and support the occupational therapy care pathway based on evidence-based practice.
* Demonstrate initiative, drive and creative problem-solving to develop solutions and manage own workload effectively.
* Excellent communication, empathy, self-awareness and critical, reflective practice skills.
* Demonstrate Health Professions Council registration and commitment to good practice.
* Knowledge of relevant legislation and safeguarding procedures (Mental Health Act, Code of Practice, Human Rights Act, Disability Discrimination Act, etc.).
