Anexceptional opportunity has emerged for a dynamic, forward thinking nurseleader to spearhead the newly commissioned Lung Cancer Screening Programme(LCSP) within the Cardio Respiratory CSU. This is your chance to build aservice from the ground upshaping how Leeds delivers low dose CT screeningto those at highest risk of lung cancer and helping to tackle one of thebiggest contributors to health inequalities in the UK.

AsLead Nurse, youll work closely with the Clinical Director and ServiceManager to establish, develop and drive this vital programme, ensuring earlydetection, improved outcomes and a meaningful impact on communities mostaffected by lung cancer. Main duties of the job

Thejob holder will be a key member of the LCSP management team and will workwith members of the CSU and the LCSP management team in delivering thestrategic development of the lung cancer screening programme and provideon-going support and guidance to the screening team and day-to-dayoperational management of screening activity. This post will encompass theLCS Responsible Assessor role.

Job responsibilities

Asan expert, senior nurse in the field of Lung Cancer Screening the post holderwill deliver high quality patient care, acting as a role model for nursingpractice across the specialty and Trust.

Thepost holder will act as a source of expertise, advice and knowledge forpatients, carers and healthcare professionals and provide expert clinicalnursing advice, education and leadership within the specialty.

Thejob holder will be professionally and operationally accountable to the Headof Nursing and work with them in the delivery of the city wide Lung CancerScreening Programme.

Thejob holder will work in partnership with other colleagues from health and social care providers acrossthe region providing professionalleadership and expertise to ensure effective implementation of the strategicLung Cancer Screening agenda.

Thepost holder will lead and developspecific areas of the Lung Cancer Screening Programme.

Thepost holder will act as a professional non-medical lead for the Lung CancerScreening and associated pathways.

Thepost holder will work in partnership with the Respiratory Matrons across theservice and will have direct operational management responsibility for someaspects of the service.

Currentservice comprises the community mobile lung cancer screening unit anddepartments across the Leeds Lung Cancer Screening Programme. The jobholderhas direct line management of the specialist nurses within the CSU or a partof it. The jobholder is responsible for the management of nursing resourcesand department budgets.

Thispost will encompass the Lung Cancer Screening Programme Responsible Assessorrole.

TheResponsible Assessor for the Targeted Lung Health Checks programme is a keyrole working with patients, clinicians, and other partners, to implement theLung Cancer Screening Programme in Leeds. It is an integral part of theoverall programme governance structure with specific responsibility for thesafety and operational aspects of the process to select and assess theindividual cases for entry into the programme. They will continually overseeand monitor the clinical programme, the assessment and management ofparticipants and provide day to day leadership of the clinical service.


Person Specification


Experience

* Significant experience in the specialist area in order to act as an expert practitioner
* Staff recruitment and line management
* Demonstrable experience of staff development and performance management
* Ability to teach, supervise and assess
* Demonstrate significant contribution to practice and service development
* Demonstrable experience in Lung Cancer Screening
* Evidence of implementing significant change or service development that promote good practice
* Experience of clinical audit methods


Skills & behaviours

* Effective management of own workload and autonomous practice
* Ability to lead and influence system-wide change
* Ability to deal with emotional and stressful patient related situations
* Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Computer skills e.g. using Microsoft and local NHS Trust software
* Able to organise own learning and development
* Problem solving and RCA investigation


Qualifications

* Registered Nurse (level 1)
* Valid NMC registration
* Masters level degree or demonstrable evidence of working at this level
* Recognised teaching/assessing qualification

* Self-motivated and able to motivate others
* Effective team player able to work with people at all levels within the trust
* Able to communicate with a range of different professional groups (both clinical and non clinical)
