We are looking for enthusiastic, dynamic and caring Healthcare Assistants, who have a passion for working on a medical ward to join our supportive and friendly team.

You will be able to demonstrate excellent communication and inter-personal skills; It is preferred to have previous experience in the role.

You will be provided a clinical training to learn the role and will have daily supervision by a trained staff to perform safely, confidently and competently the clinical skills required. The Trust are giving opportunities and support for your future career pathway and development.

Main duties of the job

Previous experience in this role is preferred. However, you will be provided with the clinical training to learn the role. You will be provided with daily supervision by trained staff to perform safely, confidently and competently. Applicants must be able to demonstrate:

whilst the registered nurse retains accountability for the care delivered by the HCA, the post holder is responsible for their own practise, working within the defined limits of competence and within the scope of the role.

St George’s, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group cares for a population of four million people in South West London and North East Surrey. Our sites include St George’s Hospital, one of 11 major trauma centres in the UK and the largest healthcare provider and major teaching hospital in the area; St Helier Hospital, home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children; and Epsom Hospital, home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC).

Qualifications and training

Essential criteria

5. Care Certificate or willingness to complete the Care Certificate within 6-12 weeks

Desirable criteria

6. GCSE or equivalent in Math and English
7. Health & Social Care Level 2 or 3 certificate or Higher Development training

Experience

Essential criteria

8. Ability to work within a team
9. Ability to provide holistic care
10. Basic IT experience or willingness to input an electronic record system

Desirable criteria

11. Experience of working within relevant speciality in a ward or hospital in a caring role
12. Experience of taking and documenting basic patient observations such as TPR and BP

Knowledge

Essential criteria

13. Awareness of human anatomy and physiology
14. Demonstrates an insight into personal care needs

Desirable criteria

15. Familiar with patient care

Skills

Essential criteria

16. Ability provide holistic patient nursing care
17. Demonstrates an ability to listen and learn and escalate to Registered Nurse and other registered practitioners
