The role
We are looking for a paralegal to join the Projects and Construction Team based in our Cambridge office. You will work with Ed Freeman (Partner), Lauren Michaelides (Senior Associate), Emily McCarthy (Senior Paralegal) and other members of the team. You will be a key part of our client service team, undertaking a broad range of tasks on transactional construction projects and will support the construction team as well as other teams within the firm to provide construction specific legal advice and support – working directly with lawyers, clients and external consultants to support construction projects and developments locally and nationally.
The person
* Ideally have prior work experience as a paralegal. Alternatively proven legal experience (including academic) or awareness of legal issues. Enthusiasm for the sector expected.
* Good document management skills and organisation.
* Excellent written English and ability to produce clear, logical drafting.

The activities
* Tracking and managing the daily flow of documents and correspondence on live projects, doing so with project trackers and reporting against key details, being responsible for maintain those trackers throughout the project. This will include monitoring the progress of various types of construction contracts (both electronic and hardcopy documents) from early drafts through to signing and completion, recording discussions and progress from contract negotiations and client updates.
* Maintaining and organising electronic and paper files and project trackers so the team can access what they need quickly.
* Preparing initial drafts of documents and using standard documents and legal templates and draft contracts (precedents) to do so.
* Assisting with the initial stages of reviewing, drafting, negotiating, amending, reporting on a range of construction specific contracts. Examples of these include building contracts, appointments for construction consultants (e.g. architects, engineers), novation agreements, letters of reliance and collateral warranties. This may include work as part of due diligence exercises.
* Engaging professionally with clients, lawyers and other parties, including supporting and attending meetings. This will include accurately noting key points and following up on actions.
* Collating large volumes of documents, both in paper form and electronically (including technical construction documents).
* Assisting with legal or other research as required.
* Preparing (‘engrossing') final documents for electronic and wet‑ink signing, including managing the signing processes and checking documents are complete.
* Increasing use of technology (including AI tools) to improve efficiency and document management.
