Overview
Clinical Sister / Charge Nurse for Endoscopy at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. The role requires extensive knowledge and experience of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures (OGD, Colonoscopy, FOS, EMR, EUS, ERCP) as well as bronchoscopy and EBUS. The practitioner will be responsible for their own professional conduct in line with the NMC Code of Conduct and Trust & local policies, with an understanding of guidance from relevant professional bodies including BSG and JAG.
The role covers both endoscopy units Coventry and Rugby. Duties are based on a 7 day working roster. The post involves leadership, teaching, mentoring, and managerial duties, including involvement in 24-hour on-call cover as required (evenings and weekends based on a roster).
Responsibilities
* Lead and role model high quality, patient-centred care in the endoscopy setting.
* Share knowledge and experience with all staff grades through teaching, mentoring and assessing.
* Participate in managerial duties, supporting the unit manager to maintain optimal unit operation and patient safety, including expansion of duties during times of absence.
* Lead the 24-hour on-call team as required (evenings and weekends, based on roster).
* Ensure adherence to professional conduct standards in line with NMC Code of Conduct and all Trust and local policies; understand guidance from BSG and JAG.
* Work across both Coventry and Rugby endoscopy units with duties based on a 7-day roster.
* Provide and obtain an immunisation and vaccination report from a UK occupational health provider or UK GP.
* Assess requirements for endoscopy and recovery areas for the list; provide and prepare necessary equipment and materials.
* Monitor equipment; take action if faults are found; demonstrate extensive knowledge of standard operating procedures for the endoscopy unit.
* Assess, plan, implement, monitor and evaluate patient care using specialist knowledge and skills; respect patient preferences, rights and choices for endoscopic procedures.
* Explain individual procedures thoroughly to patients as part of the Trust consent process.
* Maintain health, safety and infection control in clinical areas in line with Trust policies and procedures.
* Store, prepare and administer prescribed drugs; monitor drug effects in line with Trust policies.
* Prepare, monitor and maintain materials and equipment for clinical procedures; take action if faulty.
* Support, monitor and care for patients during procedures and in post-procedure recovery; participate in treating patients during clinical emergencies and support other staff involved.
* Receive, transfer and position patients for clinical procedures.
