Job Overview

The post holder will be involved in the Incident Management Processes, with a focus on the customer at all times. The post holder will form part of an out‑of‑hours rota providing Service Delivery 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The post holder will work closely with Senior Service Desk Specialists to maintain excellent communications with the customer and the rest of the Service Delivery Team.

The post holder will be an effective team player contributing to a dynamic leading‑edge department that, through the use of supporting technologies, is constantly striving to improve patient care in a professionally consistent manner, often under high pressure and using ITIL best practice.


Main Duties of the Job

The Informatics team is responsible for developing the trusts information communication and Technology Strategy, and for delivering the information systems development programme. It also ensures the operation of secure and confidential systems, and the provision of high quality information and records to support care.

We operate from three main hospitals – Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal – plus a number of community healthcare premises.

FGH and the RLI provide full emergency and specialist services. WGH offers a range of general hospital services, including an urgent treatment centre for non‑life‑threatening conditions.

All three main hospitals provide planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery, with additional local outreach services across Morecambe Bay.


Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

Work proactively to prevent information, clinical and business process failure from occurring and seek improvements in the services provided to Morecambe Bay Health Community's computer users.

Provide the community’s clinical and administrative users with basic application support for national applications.

The post holder will assist the Service Delivery Manager to manage high‑severity incidents out‑of‑hours, liaising with the Informatics IT Engineer, Senior Manager on‑call rota, the Local Service Provider and the Connecting for Health Service Bridge.

The post holder will be sympathetic to the appropriate use of the Information Systems within the clinical environment and will offer advice and support in a manner that complements clinical staff’s ability to deliver patient care.

The post holder will be exposed to high‑pressure situations and will be required to communicate clearly, sensitively and appropriately with all levels of staff. Significant internal and external contact will include Consultant Clinicians, Trust Directors, General Practitioners, System Suppliers and Hospital System Suppliers.


Person Specification

* Must be self‑motivating and able to demonstrate an ability to achieve targets and undertake specific projects
* Must have previous experience of working in the NHS
* Must be able to multi‑task when user pressure is high
* In‑depth understanding of healthcare business and clinical processes
* Good understanding of the concepts of Healthcare computing
* Must be able to work in a small dedicated team environment
