Job Title: Personal Assistant (PA) for Child with Additional Support Needs
Location: Kilmarnock
Rate of Pay: 12.00 per hour
Hours: Casual 8 hours per 4-week period (as agreed with employer)
Job Purpose:
To provide one-to-one support for a 10-year-old boy, who has epilepsy (no rescue medication required), a learning disability, ASD, and Chromosome 7p duplication. The PA will assist Logan in engaging in activities, promoting his independence, and ensuring his safety and well-being while supporting his needs in a home and community setting.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide companionship and support tailored to the young person’s needs.
* Encourage and engage the young person in activities suited to his interests and abilities.
* Offer reassurance and guidance to help him navigate different environments.
* Support positive behaviour and communication, considering his short attention span and repetitive speech.
* Assist in developing social skills and interaction in an appropriate and supportive way.
* Ensure the young person's safety at all times, particularly in unfamiliar settings.
* Follow any guidance given by parents/carers regarding routines and preferences.
* Maintain a patient and understanding approach to behavioural challenges arising from his learning disability and ASD.
* Promote consistency and routine in line with what works well for the young person at school.
Person Specification:
Essential:
* Experience working with children with additional support needs (ASD, learning disabilities, epilepsy).
* Understanding of behaviour linked to communication difficulties and short attention spans.
* Patience, empathy, and the ability to build trust with the young person.
* Reliable, responsible, and able to follow guidance from parents/carers.
* Good communication skills to liaise effectively with the young person’s family.
Desirable:
* Experience in a similar personal assistant, care, or support worker role.
* Knowledge of strategies for supporting communication and managing behaviour positively.
