Job description

Working in the UK Payroll Team within the People Operations department, this role plays a key part in ensuring all our employees in the UK, working in both stores and head office, are paid accurately and on time every month. Working closely with HR colleagues and our retail stores, you will have a proactive approach to collecting and processing information with a focus on meeting deadlines. The role involves dealing with high-volume payrolls and requires a good working knowledge of time and attendance policies and systems.


Main responsibilities

1. Handle large volumes of data from multiple systems on a monthly basis with confidence.
2. Proactively collect and process information, ensuring deadlines are met.
3. Contribute to the end-to-end UK payroll process as part of the payroll team.
4. Validate data flow from HR to payroll systems to ensure employee data accuracy.
5. Validate time and attendance data entering the payroll system.
6. Review payroll results, identify variances, and explain them for final approval.
7. Administer payroll for maternity, paternity, adoption, and parental leave, ensuring accurate payments.
8. Provide required data to the business or external bodies (e.g., Attachment Orders, DEA, CSA).
9. Process HMRC notices (e.g., P6, P9, SL1) and produce P45s and P60s accurately.
10. Maintain documentation and audit trails for payroll processes to ensure integrity and compliance.
11. Maintain good knowledge of UK payroll legislation.
12. Understand time and attendance systems and their statutory requirements.
13. Support payroll-related queries from staff or external parties.


Ideal candidate

1. Knowledge of UK tax, National Insurance, pensions, and NMW compliance.
2. Understanding of time & attendance systems and legal requirements.
3. Experience working within a UK payroll team.
4. Self-motivated and proactive.
5. Team player with strong communication skills.
6. Quick learner capable of adapting to new systems and processes.
7. Ability to manage workload in a fast-paced, changing environment.
8. Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel (intermediate level or above).
9. Ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
10. Numerate with a good standard of written English.
11. Understanding of data protection and confidentiality importance.
