Express Recruitment are delighted to be working in partnership with a rapidly growing manufacturer of special purpose machinery on behalf of a global client base. Due to continued growth throughout their brand-new facilities, our client is seeking the addition of an experienced Engineering Buyer with proven experience of working in the special purpose machine manufacturing or automation solutions sector.
The successful candidate will take ownership of the busy purchasing department, whilst helping to drive continuous improvement, enhance supplier relationships and implement supplier and overhead cost saving strategies.
In return, they are offering a competitive salary of up to c£50,000 per annum D.O.E alongside a generous benefits packaged including a pension scheme, 25 days holiday + stats, non-contractual bonus scheme and death in service pay (x2 salary).
You will be contracted to 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Furthermore, you will benefit from flexible start/finish times, with potential for 1pm finish on Fridays (6 hour working day).
Skills & Experience
* Proven experience in special purpose machinery, automation or industrial parts manufacturing
* Proven experience in purchasing mechanical and electrical components for building and assembly of machines
* Experienced in building professional customer relationships with UK and overseas suppliers
* Proficient user of ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office packages
* Ability to read and understand technical CAD diagrams and Bill of Materials (BOMs)
* Confident contract negotiation skills with suppliers
* Comprehensive understanding of ISO:9001 quality standards
* Work closely with the engineering and shopfloor departments to review and approve raw material and machine component required for purchase
* Liaise with engineering stores team to oversee and monitor stock levels and investigate discrepancies, whilst making suggestions to boost efficiency levels
* Build and maintain professional working relationships with new and existing suppliers, whilst negotiating renewal and first-time contracts
* Visit suppliers to resolve delivery, pricing and transport disruption issues
* Maintain a close working relationship with finance by regularly discussing budgets, spend forecasts, cost variances and purchase approvals ensuring alignment and timely communication on any financial impacts or risks.
* Design and implement the supply chain strategy ensuring on time delivery while proactively identifying and communicating potential risks to the business.
* Work closely with commercial team to manage OEM goods
* Track time schedules for all spare parts, assemblies/sub-assemblies purchased, ensuring they arrive by the agreed delivery dates
* Liaise with suppliers to report defects/non-confirming parts, whilst obtaining compensation via refund or replacement parts
* Chair frequent meetings with Head of Operations & Finance to report on quarterly spend and put forward suggestions to reduce supplier costs, lead times whilst adhering to continuous improvement strategies to ensure product quality and SLAs are not compromised
