About the Role
We’re looking for a skilled and proactive Project Manager to join our growing team in Telford. This exciting position involves managing automation and tooling projects from concept and design through to installation, commissioning, and customer handover.
You’ll lead cross-functional teams, oversee project delivery, and ensure that all work meets strict quality, budget, and timing targets. Working within an automotive automation environment, you’ll play a key role in driving operational excellence and maintaining strong relationships with customers and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and manage detailed project timing plans using Microsoft Project.
* Track progress, manage open issue lists, and ensure timely resolution of actions.
* Oversee all project phases – design, mechanical and electrical assembly, software integration (PLC & Robotics), testing, and commissioning.
* Act as the main customer contact, ensuring clear communication and customer satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
* Lead and motivate cross-functional teams, ensuring accountability and alignment with project goals.
* Attend customer sites for installation and commissioning activities when required.
* Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks to ensure on-time and in-scope delivery.
* Provide project status updates and reports to management and stakeholders.
* Promote safety, quality, and continuous improvement across all activities.
* Ensure compliance with all relevant Health & Safety legislation and company procedures.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
* Proven background in mechanical and electrical assembly environments.
* Strong proficiency in Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office.
* Time-served apprenticeship in engineering or related discipline.
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in the Body-in-White industry or automation tooling.
* Knowledge of 2D/3D CAD, GD&T, and design principles.
* Familiarity with robotic and PLC systems.
Desirable:
* Formal project management qualification (Prince2, Agile, or similar).
* Experience with major automation suppliers (FANUC, ABB, KUKA, Siemens, etc.).
* Experience managing multiple concurrent projects.
* Understanding of CE marking, health & safety, and industrial standards.
* Experience in international project delivery (including logistics and import/export).
* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and electrical schematics.
* Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar 3D design tools.

Work Environment
This role is based within a manufacturing and automation environment, where you may be exposed to heat, noise, and machinery. Full PPE and Health & Safety training are provided. Occasional travel and time away from home will be required to support project installations, commissioning, and assembly activities
