Mechanical Design Engineering Manager required for a Pharmaceutical Machinery manufacturer based in Liverpool. The successful candidate will be leading a small team of Design Engineers to manage the design of machinery to project specifications, regulations, and objectives.
Mechanical Design Manager Key Responsibilities
* Lead, mentor, and develop a team of mechanical engineers
* Manage project timelines, resources, and priorities
* Deliver mechanical designs using SolidWorks, from concept to production
* Oversee prototyping, testing, and validation activities
* Specify mechanical components such as motors, gearboxes, and pumps
* Work closely with electrical, software, and assembly teams
* Liaise with suppliers on materials and components
* Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations (e.g. ATEX, ASME, PED, ISO 9001)
* Lead design reviews, risk assessments, and approve technical documentation
* Drive continuous improvement and resolve technical challenges across projects
Mechanical Design Manager Job Requirements
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
* Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks desirable / AutoCAD).
* Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes / Hands on fabrication and machining experience (preferred)
* Experience with mechanical analysis, including FEA and thermal analysis.
* Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities.
* Be fully conversant in the use and understanding of General Arrangement Drawings, 3D Modelling software (Solidworks preferable), Detailed Design Drawings, Process & Instrumentation Diagrams, and Functional Specifications
* Strong attention to detail with demonstrable knowledge of high tolerance assemblies, limits and fits, machined parts, and interfaces.
Mechanical Design Manager Salary & Benefits
* Salary dependent on experience but £55k-£60k
* 7.5 hours per day (Flexible starts and finishes)
* 1pm finish fridays
