Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant Location: Rotherham S25 Salary: £460–£600 per week Contract Type: Full time, long-term / Day-to-day Start Date: Immediately Are you passionate about supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? A fantastic opportunity has arisen in a welcoming school in Rotherham (S25) for a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team. About the School: The school provides a structured and nurturing environment tailored to students who require additional support with their social, emotional, and behavioural development. With a strong focus on personalised learning and positive behaviour strategies, the school ensures that every student feels valued and understood. Staff work collaboratively to create a consistent and supportive atmosphere where learners are encouraged to build confidence, resilience, and independence while progressing academically. About the Role: As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide targeted support for students with SEMH needs. You will help create a safe and engaging learning environment, supporting both academic progress and emotional regulation. This role requires patience, adaptability, and a proactive approach to behaviour management. Responsibilities: • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs, promoting engagement and positive participation in lessons. • Assist in implementing personalised learning and behaviour support plans tailored to individual student requirements. • Support the development of students’ emotional regulation, social skills, and confidence. • Work collaboratively with teachers and pastoral staff to maintain a structured and supportive classroom environment. • Monitor and record student progress, behaviour, and achievements in line with school policies. • Promote safeguarding, well-being, and inclusion at all times. Qualifications: • Previous experience supporting students with SEMH needs in a school or similar setting is desirable. • Understanding of behaviour management strategies and emotional regulation techniques. • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. • Ability to remain calm, patient, and resilient in challenging situations. • A genuine commitment to supporting the well-being and development of young people.
