NHS Borders and QMU are offering an exciting opportunity for experienced nurses and midwives who are keen to pursue a career in health visiting and improve outcomes for children and their families. Successful applicants will undertake a one-year full-time study to complete the Post Graduate Diploma: Health Visiting (Person Centred Practice) (level 11) at QMU, Edinburgh, alongside practice placement in NHS Borders. Upon completion and registration on Level 3 of the NMC register, candidates will be eligible to apply for permanent Health Visiting posts within NHS Borders.

Training Details
One year commencing January 2026, facilitated by NHS Borders and QMU. The post is fixed term for 12 months, with Annex 21 pay arrangements throughout the training period.
Eligibility Criteria
* Be an experienced nurse or midwife on the NMC register
* Available for full-time study from January 2026
* Available for face-to-face interview (dates to be confirmed)
* Have the required academic credits or recent study evidence
* Complete a 1500-word essay as part of the application (details provided upon shortlisting)
Entry Routes
* Standard Entry: Recent relevant degree within last 5 years
* Non-standard Entry: Degree obtained more than 5 years ago but recent academic study at Scottish level 11 or equivalent within last 5 years; or no degree but recent academic study at Scottish level 11 or equivalent; or degree more than 10 years ago with recent Scottish level 11 study. Discussions with programme leaders may be required for older degrees.
* Stand Alone Module: No degree or recent Scottish level 11 study? Complete the 20-credit 'Ethical Judgements and Decision Making' module (£1090). Funding options may be available.
