Role Summary
We are currently seeking talented and motivated individuals to join our team as a Field Service Technician at Rivian. This is an evergreen job posting, which allows us to build a pipeline of qualified candidates who we can consider for future openings. The Field Service Technician will be responsible for overdelivering on the internal and external customer experience at our service locations. The ideal candidate will possess technical acumen and the ability to provide excellent customer service. If you are quick-thinking, proactive, communicative, and passionate about adventure, we want you on the team. You will work with internal partners daily to assist with service needs and coordinate with our Service, Vehicle, Delivery Operations, and Field Service Engineer teams. This role requires a dynamic leader with excellent communication skills, who fosters cross-functional collaboration and champions continuous improvement to support Service teams and customers within a Service center. Success in this role requires a customer-first approach, adaptability in ambiguous environments, and a creative, flexible mindset. Experience in automotive repair, process standardization, continuous improvement, and managing escalations is a plus.
Responsibilities
* Support pre-production vehicle builds, including assisting cross-functional teams
* Travel to locations as needed until the local Service Center opens, including production plants
* Operate remotely until the local service center opens, if applicable
* Follow Rivian repair procedures efficiently without compromising quality and safety
* Perform or assist with diagnosis, repairs, installations, and inspections on vehicles
* Support vehicle repairs outside of a service center setting
* Conduct road tests to ensure repair quality
* Manage parts operations such as ordering, receiving, shipping, and inventory
* Stay updated with technical skills and required training
* Support campaigns and containment initiatives
* Maintain accurate expense reports as needed
* Work with high quality and efficiency with minimal supervision
* Collaborate effectively in a dynamic environment
* Provide service support to the field to assist the Service organization
* Perform duties professionally in a customer-facing environment
* Additional plant support, including travel, may be required based on business needs
Qualifications
* HS Diploma or GED preferred
* Graduation from an accredited automotive repair school preferred
* 5+ years of experience in automotive repair preferred
* Proficient with hand and power tools
* Comfortable using a laptop or computer in Windows or Mac environments
* Basic diagnosis and workflow knowledge
* Ability to read electrical schematics
* Limited diagnostic exposure
* Understanding of high and low voltage electricity basics
* Ability to perform tire repairs and vehicle alignments
* Hybrid repair experience is a plus
* Ability to diagnose and explain vehicle electronic communications like CAN Bus
* Ability to drive non-commercial trucks and trailers is preferred
* Willingness to travel up to 75% as needed
* Valid driver's license with a clean record
* No recent driving suspensions or revocations
* Parts department and billing experience is preferred
* Experience with work order management systems
* Start-up environment experience is a plus
* Patience and eagerness to learn
* Positive attitude in difficult situations
* Strong organizational and time management skills
* Physical ability to perform occupational tasks (up to 50 lbs.)
* Proficient in English reading and speaking
* Ability to interpret documents and schematics
* Minimum age of 21
* Availability for a 40-hour weekly schedule, including weekends and holidays, with shifts potentially in evenings, overnights, or early mornings
* Ability to document repairs accurately
Pay Disclosure
NY-Based Employees: Salary Range: $30-$50 hourly (actual pay depends on experience and other factors). Benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, effective from day one, with Rivian covering most premiums.
