Overview
We are partnering with the Police Service of Northern Ireland to recruit a Director of Strategic Communications & Engagement. The successful candidate will lead the development and delivery of a new strategic communications strategy, oversee internal and external communications, manage high‑profile stakeholder relationships and support visible, responsive, community‑based policing.
Responsibilities
* Lead development and delivery of a new Strategic Communications and Engagement Strategy.
* Oversee the internal and external communications service provision.
* Support proactive use of media to provide timely information to the public and partners.
* Drive a planned, proactive approach to communications to shape public understanding and confidence.
* Lead internal communications with police officers and staff to support morale and wellbeing.
* Provide expert media, public relations and stakeholder engagement advice to senior leadership.
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant area or full membership of a recognised professional body.
* Minimum of three years’ experience in a senior communications role in a large organisation (300+ staff) or five years’ experience in a senior role with similar responsibilities.
* Evidence of strategy development and delivery of effective communication systems.
* Strong analytical skills and ability to communicate complex information clearly.
* Proof of professional credibility in providing specialist communication and engagement advice to senior management.
* Experience of collaborative working at a senior level with internal and external stakeholders.
* Proven leadership record in managing a diverse communications team.
Desirable Experience
* Director‑level responsibility for organisational communication and engagement.
Benefits
Salary – £88,268 – £97,070 (NICS Grade 5) + £1,422 environmental allowance.
Pension – Automatic enrollment into the Northern Ireland Civil Service Pension Scheme (ALPHA) with option to transfer existing pension funds.
Working Hours – 37 hours per week (42 hours gross) Monday to Friday, with occasional outside‑office hours as required.
Holiday Entitlement – 30 days annual leave plus 12 public and privilege holidays.
