Information about the School
Chelmer Valley High School – An Engineering & Leadership Specialist Academy – is located north of Chelmsford, in the village of Broomfield. We became an Academy on 1 August 2011. We continue to grow and develop with a staff committed to taking the Academy forward and a governing body that provides challenge and support.
Our school has a positive atmosphere and everyone is expected to treat each other with respect in creating a positive and effective learning environment. Chelmer is a very popular school and has become heavily oversubscribed over the years.
The current school roll is nearly 1200 students, including 190 in the Sixth Form. Our aim is to remain around this size to provide appropriate personal attention and care for each student.
The Premises include state-of-the-art Technology and Science facilities, a specialist Performing Arts centre, a purpose-built sixth form building and modern PE facilities to support learning.
In the classroom, we expect students to work hard. We provide a wide range of opportunities, including additional help in class and activities for Gifted and Talented students. We monitor progress to help students meet targets and reflect on practice to reach our goals.
Leadership is strong, with development opportunities for staff and internal promotion. We were among the first secondary schools in Essex designated as a training school by the DfE and work with teacher training hubs as part of the Mid Essex ITT.
Our school participates in a variety of extracurricular activities, including school productions, language visits, sports and music tuition. We strive to involve students in these activities and develop others where interests lie.
All appointments are subject to safeguarding requirements to ensure the welfare of children and young people. All positions will involve appropriate checks and clearances.
