Avon LMC is recruiting two Medical Directors toprovide senior medical leadership and strategic advocacy for general practiceacross Bristol, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG).
This is a newly established leadership role designed tostrengthen support for member practices, enhance system influence, andcontribute to the strategic direction of the LMC
The role is 10 hours per week (minimum two sessions)and is compatible with a GP Partner or sessional role.Postholders must remain in active clinical practice.
Main duties of the job
Provide advice and guidance to GPs and practiceteams on clinical and regulatory matters
Represent general practice at local, regionaland national meetings
Act as a senior point of contact for ICBs, NHSEngland, and other stakeholders
Support development and delivery of Avon LMCsstrategic objectives
Line manages the Director of Nursing
Promote the value of general practice and engagewith member practices
Contribute to communications, publications, andnational conference motions
Travel within the BNSSG area will be required.
Working Pattern
The two roles will work across Tuesday to Thursday,structured as follows:
Work pattern would be 10 hours worked over either:
Role 1Tuesday and Wednesday or
Role 2Tuesday and Thursday
There would be a mandatory requirement to be available on Tuesdayafternoons for both roles.
There will be an expectation of reasonable flexibility basedon business need, including occasional evening meetings or system events.

Overview
The role of the Medical Director is a senior leadershipposition requiring excellent working relationships with colleagues on theBoard, Executive Committee as well as wider stakeholders. The Medical Directorrole is dynamic and is responsible for the ongoing support of the general practicein our region.

Purpose
The Medical Director role is a new position within Avon LMCand has been established to provide senior medical leadership to the LMC. Aswell as providing operational support, the role will also contribute to thestrategic direction of the organisation by engaging with its members, otherLMCs, stakeholders and other local and national bodies. The position isresponsible for representing and ensuring effective advocacy for generalpractice in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset, at a local, regionaland national level.
Key Responsibilities
-Providingadvice and guidance to GPs and practice employees on clinical and regulatoryqueries, in line with relevant legislation and best practice.
-Signposting GPs and practice employees to the appropriate bodies and services whereadvice is sought on non-clinical matters (including but not limited toemployment, premises, administrative queries or any other matters which falloutside of the Directors area of expertise).
-Workingcollaboratively with the Board, Managing Director and other LMC colleagues toensure the LMC constitution, policies and procedures are reviewed and updatedregularly.
-Linemanagement responsibility for the Avon LMC Director of Nursing.
-Maintaina strong working knowledge of key general practice frameworks including (butnot limited to) the GMS contract and the Statement of Financial Entitlements.
-Supportthe development of the Avon LMC strategy (short and long term), including aimsand objectives. Delivering feedback on the progress of this strategy to the Board,members and other stakeholders.
-Pointof contact for other organisations including ICBs, NHS England and subsequentbodies, Local Authorities, Department of Health, NHS trusts and othercommissioners and service providers.
-RepresentLMC members at meetings with commissioners and other partners.
-Activelypromote the value of GPs and the LMC.
-Managemedia enquiries and speak to media representatives, where appropriate, on behalfof the LMC and its members.
-Providefeedback to members on the achievements and objectives of the LMC, as well ascollecting valuable feedback from members.
-Feedbackareas of concern and issues arising from LMC members.
-Attendand support key events to represent the LMC and members, including conferencesand evening events where necessary, including regional LMC meetings, Committeemeetings and ad hoc meetings.
-Buildand maintain relationships with other GP organisations such as One Care, andthe Training Hub.
-Supportwith content for publications to the members of the LMC, including articles forthe newsletter, email updates and resources.
-Draftand submit motions to the National GP Conferences.
-Awarenessand contribution of the BMA GP Committee and LMC Listserver.

Qualifications
* GMC Registered General Practitioner
* GP Medical Performers List
* MBA or other postgraduate qualification
Experience
* Influencing and negotiation experience at a senior level
* Expert medical knowledge and experience of UK Primary Care systems, regulations, and practices.
* Understanding of commissioning structures and an LMCs role in the system, locally and nationally.
* Senior leadership role within primary care
* Published academic papers
* Currently working or have experience working in BNSSG.
* Experience of working with ICBs, PCNs, or interface roles between general practice and the wider NHS.
