The Accredited Clinical Coder is responsible for translating clinical documentation into accurate diagnostic and procedure codes using ICD-10 and OPCS-4 standards. The role requires substantial experience in acute clinical coding, strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology, and the ability to lead within a specialty area while mentoring junior coders. The post holder must manage coding deadlines, ensure high data quality, and participate in audits, making it a highly specialist role requiring national coding accreditation and deep technical expertise. • To abstract relevant information from various source documents and translate them into national codes, using ICD-10 and OPCS 4 Manuals, in accordance with national rules and standards, and local policies within agreed timescales. • To lead an assigned specialty e.g., General Medicine • To assist the Internal Auditors in regular Internal Clinical Coding Audits • To liaise with clinical and non-clinical staff in their area of chosen specialty, to locate all missing files or documentation and ensure timely coding of all Finished Consultant Episodes (FCE). • To participate in the organisation’s Individual Performance Review process to ensure continued professional development. • Represent the Clinical Coding team in any required internal and external meetings engaging with other colleagues as the data quality subject matter expert.
