The Opportunity

Stantec, a leading global consultancy, invites experienced water industry professionals to join our water resources team across the UK, including Leeds, Birmingham, Reading, and Shrewsbury. Our mission is to build a resilient and sustainable water supply for the UK and international clients. We have been recognised as a ‘Best Place to Work’ by the 2024 New Civil Engineer Awards and are expanding rapidly in water resources planning.

With significant investment from Ofwat and increased focus on strategic resource options, water supply and demand planning, and nature-based solutions, there are exciting opportunities to contribute to projects such as WRMPs, DRPs, WINEP investigations, and supply‑demand balance modelling.

We seek a dedicated individual to support water resource projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and regulatory standards. Key responsibilities include:

* Developing and analysing water resource management plans (WRMPs), drought plans, and water industry national environment programme (WINEP) investigations.
* Conducting hydrological analysis, demand forecasting, and options appraisal using Excel, HYSIM, GR6J and GIS.
* Applying modelling tools such as Pywr, Miser, or Aquator to support water resource modelling.
* Contributing to technical report writing and regulatory submissions.
* Collaborating across multidisciplinary teams including groundwater, water quality, and flood risk stakeholders.

About You

We welcome candidates from regulatory, academic, water company or consultancy backgrounds who have recent experience applying water resource knowledge in policy and technical areas. We are particularly interested in applicants who are:

* Passionate about water sustainability and resilient water supply.
* Strong numerical and analytical skills, with experience in hydrological modelling.
* Familiar with UK water resource management regulations, including WRMPs, drought planning, and supply‑demand balance.
* Proficient in GIS and water resource modelling tools (Pywr, Miser, Aquator).
* Comfortable working in fast-paced, multidisciplinary teams and eager to learn new technical skills.

We recognise that you may be at a stage of career development where you need support to learn and grow; Stantec provides training and development opportunities, and we do not expect all requirements to be met at this stage.
