Overview. PepsiCo is looking for R&D Flavour Lab Technician to join the R&D site in Leicester, UK.
Job Purpose
In this role you will support Flavour S&T activities. Your primary focus will be on executing investigations to evaluate novel technologies for flavour systems that delight consumers and accelerate progress towards our PEP+ goals. This role is critical to accelerating work within the Flavor Experiences pillar of Portfolio of the Future. You will execute complex technical development projects, delivering high-priority work on a global scale and developing novel approaches to delivering flavour advantage through our products. You will be responsible for preparing product samples, coordinating sample testing and tasting, and maintaining the flavour lab. When required, you will partner with internal colleagues to execute project requests by the Flavour S&T team. You will update stakeholders on project progression and tracking, save results systematically, and support the Flavour S&T team with administration tasks.
Responsibilities
* Support product development activities by preparing product samples following recipes defined by the Flavour S&T team, including precisely weighing ingredients, seasoning products following food safety protocols, and preparing samples for sensory testing and/or shipping.
* Support the Flavour S&T team in submitting samples for sensory and/or analytical analysis, using PepsiCo systems for submission, tracking, labeling, packing, and saving results.
* Support the Flavour S&T team in completing administration tasks, such as recipe archiving and file saving.
* Maintain day-to-day lab operations, including ordering ingredients, maintaining a clean and safe lab environment, and ensuring the lab is kept in optimal condition.
* Maintain inventory for ingredients and equipment in the lab.
* Coordinate sample tasting under the Flavour S&T team instructions.
* Support SPBT analytical tests (suite of analytical tests involving analytical instrumentation).
* Partner with cross-functional peers to deliver project requests.
* Work with external suppliers for ingredients and sample requests.
* No direct reports.
Qualifications
* First Degree or equivalent in a Food Science or Chemistry-related discipline preferred but not essential.
* At least 12 months experience working in or with a food business preferred.
* Computer literate (email, Excel, use of PepsiCo system to submit samples for testing and save files; training will be provided).
* Self-starter with strong motivation to drive results in an innovative, inquiring and scientifically robust manner.
* Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate with team members, sensory analytical lab team members and ingredient suppliers.
