Communications & Social Media Assistant
Overview
Birkbeck's Students’ Union is seeking a Communications & Social Media Assistant. This is an exciting opportunity to join us during a period of positive change. You will be a current student (or recent Birkbeck graduate) who is committed to listening and engaging Birkbeck's student population, and have the skills, enthusiasm and creativity to support the Students’ Union communications team to build a positive student experience for everyone within Birkbeck's community.
In this role, you will ensure Birkbeck students are engaged and aware of the Union’s activity through the development and delivery of the Student Union’s social media strategy, including video content. You will expand your communication skills and demonstrate creativity through engaging design and video content, and help create other communications materials such as printed flyers and posters, website content, and scripts for the Student Union podcast. You will provide excellent customer service across the Students’ Union mailbox and social media channels, identify emerging trends from student feedback, and help ensure the Union remains representative and aware of student needs.
Responsibilities
* Develop and deliver the Student Union’s social media strategy, including video content.
* Create engaging design, video content, and other communications materials (e.g., printed flyers and posters).
* Prepare written content for the website and scripts for the Student Union podcast.
* Provide excellent customer service across the Students’ Union mailbox and social media channels.
* Identify emerging trends from student feedback to ensure the Union remains representative and responsive to student needs.
Qualifications & Skills
* Current student or recent Birkbeck graduate with excellent organisation and administrative skills.
* Creative, tech-savvy communicator with strong social media skills and a willingness to learn and develop new skills.
* Passion for communication, creativity and copywriting; ability to communicate clearly in different formats (written/verbal).
* Good organisation, attention to detail, and a proven track record of excellent customer service.
Salary & Benefits
Actual £11,400 per year 0.4 FTE (pro-rated £28,502 FTE). Grade 3 on the College's London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated London Weighting Allowance.

Contract Details
Fixed-term, 6 month contract, part-time (14 hours a week). Closing date: Sunday 19 October 2025; interview date: Monday 27 October 2025.
