A Little More About Your Role…
We are seeking an enthusiastic and talented Senior or Principal Engineer to join the Liveable Places Traffic Signal Design team. You will be leading day-to-day technical delivery of highway consultancy services to support our clients through all stages of the project life-cycle from feasibility and concept design through to planning, detailed design, construction and post-commissioning support. This role will be client facing and the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a track record of delivery of schemes in either the local or national transport arena. The Liveable Places team delivers a wide range of schemes from concept to delivery that include public realm, traffic engineering, road safety, traffic signals, pedestrian / traffic modelling, active travel, and parking. The team is based in offices across the country with over 200 staff and is growing.
* Utilising technical expertise in traffic signals or traffic engineering to develop designs, supervise, train, check and approve work undertaken by junior colleagues.
* Managing traffic signal projects to ensure coordination and compatibility of multi-disciplinary inputs on projects of varying scale, complexity and value.
* Liaising with clients, developing strong trusted relationships, proactively managing expectations and comprehensively advising them.
* Undertake project technical lead and reviewer roles.
* Support others to maximise their personal contribution to project/team goals.
* Prepare fee proposals and manage budgets for individual projects.
* Develop and deliver discrete and overall project solutions.
* Lead and manage junior staff in the delivery of traffic signal design packages, including design drawings, standard construction details, specifications, controller configurations, MOVA datasets, FAT/SAT etc.
* Ensure compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental Legislation and in-house quality assurance standards/processes.
* Support team resource coordination and help set up teams and assign roles.
What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate…
* Knowledge and experience of traffic signal design at various stages of the project life cycle, including local transport modelling using software such as LinSig and controller configuration TR2500. Experience with SCOOT and MOVA design, implementation and validation is advantageous.
* Experience in leading one or more design disciplines within relevant projects (road, public transport, active travel, public realm and/or private development).
* Experience with contract document preparation or contract administration/site supervision using Public Works Contracts.
* Ability to use, direct and check design outputs created in software such as Autodesk Civils 3D & KeySignals.
* Proactive change management on tasks/projects with clear communication of impacts on programme, cost and quality.
* Good communication, client/stakeholder management and interpersonal skills.
* Chartered Civil Engineer or Incorporated Engineer status is advantageous.
* Understanding and application of design codes such as the Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, TSRGD, Local Authority design guidance and experience in drawing preparation for contract documentation and technical approvals, including departures from standard.
* Experience of Designers Duties under CDM regulations.
