Overview
An exciting opportunity for a Senior Occupational Therapist to join the Hillingdon Mental Health Inpatient Service. The post covers two 18‑beded male and female wards and an 8‑beded male Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit. The role allows clinicians to focus on their clinical OT skills and to contribute to growing and developing the OT provision within inpatient services.
Responsibilities
* Contribute to assessment and intervention planning across inpatient wards, HBPOS and The Lighthouse.
* Support service users transitioning between acute, crisis and community pathways.
* Supervise junior staff and students and act as a Practice Educator.
* Provide OT input to support people in crisis, including risk management and discharge planning.
* Use MoHO, sensory and other evidence‑based assessment tools to establish baseline functional assessment and recommend ongoing care.
* Apply integrated evidence‑based practice and personal recovery principles to improve service users’ quality of life.
* Assist in promoting smooth transitions from acute and crisis services to community care.
* Build leadership skills as part of progression toward Band 7 roles within CNWL.
Qualifications
* Relevant occupational therapy qualification with clinical experience in mental health.
* Strong passion for OT and a desire to develop OT provision within inpatient services.
* Self‑motivated, with a commitment to working within personal recovery principles.
* Knowledge of RCoT Professional standards and ethics.
* Experience with MoHO assessment and use of evidence‑based interventions.
Training, Development and Support
* Specialised OT & mental health training sessions, including sensory integration and trauma‑informed care.
* Shadow and develop skills in neighbouring services.
* Mentoring and coaching sessions, including a bespoke 1:1 induction by Head OT.
* Monthly supervision from the lead OT for Hillingdon Inpatient Services.
* Support developing management and leadership skills through supervising others, supporting students and developing new initiatives.
* Opportunities to contribute to Research and Development structures in OT, specialist forums and networks.
