Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse is looking for an enthusiastic, organised and self-motivated individual to help deliver the exciting 250 th anniversary project ‘Gressenhall 250: More than a Workhouse’, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Gressenhall first opened its doors in 1777 as a House of Industry, before transitioning to a Union Workhouse under the national system. As such, it became a refuge and place of last resort for many of Norfolk’s poorest and most vulnerable residents. This project seeks to shed light on the later years of the site’s history as a care home and emergency accommodation for ‘evicted families’ following the creation of the NHS, during a time of significant change to health and welfare in the UK. This is an exciting opportunity to get involved in the planning and delivery of a significant heritage project. The postholder will take the lead in the coordination of volunteer researchers and an oral history project, deliver outreach activities and support exhibitions and events. The role is based at Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse, a rural site near Dereham, Norfolk. It will involve some travel to sites in Norfolk or occasional weekend and evening working as part of delivery of outreach activities. This post is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and is a fixed term contract for 18 months.
