The Vacancy
Binnies, an RSK company have opened a new office in the vibrant and historic City of Birmingham. You will get the opportunity to work on interesting and varied flood, coastal and maritime projects for our clients including the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales and local authorities.
This is an exciting and unique opportunity to join a new team, where we can grow and develop our flood, coastal and maritime business together across the Midlands and further afield.
We undertake feasibility studies to select optimum solutions; prepare business cases to unlock funding; design cost-efficient schemes using the latest digital technologies; provide construction supervision and administrative support; and advise on how to best manage and extend the life of our clients’ assets.
About the Role
1. Co-ordinate, quality assure and lead the delivery of flood risk assessments, strategies and plans, flood alleviation scheme design deliverables and business cases
2. Work in a high performance, friendly and supportive team environment to produce high quality deliverables
3. Manage, supervise and mentor junior staff
4. Understand the scope of work and deliver work to the agreed cost and programme requirements

Essential Requirements
The role is suitable for candidates with a background in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Geography, Water & Environmental Management or another related discipline.
You should possess and be able to demonstrate the following qualifications, skills and knowledge:
6. Degree qualified in a Science, Engineering, Geography, Environmental Science or related subject
7. Chartered with CIWEM, ICE or equivalent
8. Significant experience working in the environmental sector for consultancy, in contracting or the public sector
9. Experience managing projects and ability to monitor and deliver work to the agreed budget, programme and scope
10. Knowledge of relevant legislation, policy drivers and working practises in the flood and coastal sector
11. Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation, including the CDM Regulations
12. For those with a geography/ science background: demonstrable experience co-ordinating, quality assuring and undertaking analysis and interpretation of flood and coastal datasets, including identifying key issues and challenges and creating products such as flood risk assessment reports, business cases and strategies
13. For those with an engineering background: demonstrable experience co-ordinating, quality assuring and undertaking feasibility assessments, optioneering and outline and detailed design packages of work and producing engineering calculations, specifications, drawings and business case reports. Oversight of site supervision duties for engineering projects.
14. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complicated technical information to our clients in a clear and transparent way
Desirable Requirements
15. Demonstrable commercial awareness, including tendering for flood and coastal work (on client or supplier side) and contract management
16. Experience managing/ supervising junior staff and in recruiting and growing teams
17. Knowledge of flood hydrology and modelling methods
18. Experience of working on flood alleviation scheme projects at appraisal, outline design, detailed design and construction stages
19. Experience working with flood and coastal risk management stakeholders, including local communities
20. Experience in business development
