The department operates under established protocols to provide high-quality diagnostic nuclear medicine scans in the safest possible manner. This professional staff technologist position will have an impact on quality, safety, and patient satisfaction.
Job Functions
* Educates and informs patients and family members throughout the patients’ exam with compassion, empathy, and respect.
* Collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team, communicating effectively with the healthcare team using established handoff procedures.
* Operates department equipment to perform diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine exams.
* Performs computer processing/analysis of exam data.
* Performs gamma camera quality control procedures.
* Prepares the radiopharmaceutical, doses the patient, and disposes of radioactive material safely.
* Follows radiation safety techniques to minimize exposure to patients, visitors, staff and self.
* Maintains records in accordance with license terms and required documentation.
* Maintains a clean and safe work environment to enhance patient satisfaction and safety culture.
* Maintains adequate supplies and orders radioactive materials when needed.
* Assists in the daily operation of the department.
* Communicates effectively with the healthcare team and provides respectful feedback to enhance teamwork.
* Minimizes preventable harm and follows infection control protocols; uses Culture of Safety tools in daily practice and communicates near-miss or potential risks.
* Coordinates work schedule with the departmental supervisor to maintain adequate staffing levels.
* Responds to equipment issues timely to ensure optimal operation and long-term equipment maintenance.
* Participates in the maintenance of the accreditation process.
Qualifications
* Education
Required: Associates Degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology from an accredited program
Preferred: Bachelors Degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology from an accredited program

* Other Skills/Knowledge
Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English with patients and staff
* Licenses, Registrations, Certifications
Required: Registered as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (RT NM) or Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB) and possess a valid Massachusetts Radiologic Technologist license or registry eligible
* Life Support Certification

On-call: Rotation required
Schedule: Must rotate through day, evening, and weekend shifts based on department needs

Reporting Relationships
* Reports to the Nuclear Medicine Supervisor
* Not responsible for supervising the work of others
