Job Overview
We are seeking a knowledgeable and passionate History Teacher to join our secondary school on a contract basis. The successful candidate will deliver engaging and academically rigorous History lessons to students aged 11-16, fostering critical thinking, analytical skills, and a strong understanding of historical events and contexts.
This is a fixed-term contract position with the possibility of renewal based on performance and school requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality History lessons aligned with the national curriculum
Teach a range of historical periods, themes, and topics
Develop students' critical thinking, research, and essay-writing skills
Differentiate instruction to support diverse learning needs
Assess, record, and report on student progress
Prepare students for internal and external examinations
Maintain a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment
Provide constructive and timely feedback to students
Participate in staff meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and school events
Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental developmentQualifications & Requirements
Bachelor's degree in History, Education, or a related field
Teaching qualification/certification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or equivalent)
Previous secondary school teaching experience preferred
Strong classroom management and organisational skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student wellbeingDesirable Skills
Experience preparing students for GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level, or equivalent examinations
Ability to teach a broad range of historical periods (e.g., modern, medieval, world history)
Experience using digital learning tools and educational technology
Experience working in diverse or multicultural school settings
