Base pay range

We are a specialty vaccine company that develops, manufactures, and commercializes prophylactic vaccines for infectious diseases addressing unmet medical needs.

Our Occupational Health and Safety Team are looking to add a Health & Safety Advisor with a specialism in Biological Safety into their team.

As part of a dynamic and responsive team, you will support and maintain a safe workplace environment without risk to the health and welfare of others.

Actively promote and drive a proactive safety culture on site.

Support the business in executing requirements under Environmental & Social Governance.

Ensure that all Health & Safety policies, procedures, rules, and regulations including those pertaining to Biological Safety are in place and are regularly reviewed, updated, and communicated.

Maintain technical knowledge and awareness to support scientific investigations and troubleshooting including specifically process and analytical developments. Maintain awareness of process and analytical chemistry biological sciences and engineering industry improvements.


Requirements


Responsibilities

Maintain and support a structured biological health and safety system in compliance with health and safety legislation, including but not limited to:

* Development and completion of biological health & safety policies, systems of work and guidance documents
* Ensuring the business is legally compliant with biological health and safety legislation
* Ensuring the completion and regular review of biological process risk assessments
* Ensuring a structured programme is in place for biological health & safety training throughout the business
* Ensuring required submissions are made to Regulators and others where required under relevant legislation
* Support review and implementation of documentation, investigations, deviations, and corrective actions within the Quality Management System (QMS)
* Chair the site biological safety committee ensuring records of the minutes are kept and provide support when required
* Ensure relevant monitoring is carried out for biological health and safety risks and hazards in the workplace for Containment level 2/3 (CL2/3) - working with hazardous pathogens

Maintain and support the site's safety management system, including but not limited to:

* Ensuring all processes and activities are carried out in accordance with site policies and procedures
* Reviewing and updating policies and procedures where necessary, particularly when legislative changes apply
* Carrying out internal auditing activities as required
* Carrying out accident and incident investigations as needed
* Ensuring all conditions noted in the site's PPC permit are complied with
* Ensuring safe systems of work are applied where necessary, including carrying out risk assessments and assessing RAMS for contractor work activities

Support the site's processes for Environmental & Social governance, including but not limited to:

* Ensuring correct data entry into the company software platform as required
* Ensuring information required for the company Sustainability report is provided on time


Experience

* Biological Safety Practitioner (part 1) Qualification (or equivalent)
* Health and Safety qualification such as NEBOSH Certificate, NEBOSH Diploma, NVQ Level 5 Diploma or equivalent
* Relevant health and safety experience, biological, environmental and general, within the biopharmaceutical manufacturing industry or other related industries at a senior level operational / management level preferred
* Hons Degree in Biological or Chemical Sciences would be considered an advantage
