We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Electrician to join our Ministry of Justice (MoJ) account in HMP Leicester. This role is based on-site.
There will be a need to work 1 in 3 weekends, on a rota basis, with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary.
At Amey, we support our justice client, His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS), by providing safe, clean, and efficient prisons. Using our facilities management expertise, we help keep 60 secure premises across England and Wales running smoothly.
The Electrician plays an important role in ensuring planned and reactive maintenance work within the prisons is carried out safely, compliantly, and promptly.
The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week, across 7 days, with a weekend shift pattern.
You will be responsible for:
* Planned and preventative electrical maintenance.
* Diagnosing and replacing failed domestic electrical components.
* Responding to breakdowns, ensuring all works are carried out under the appropriate Safe System of Work and in a timely manner.
* Fault finding and problem solving on domestic electrical systems across the prison.
* Electrical installation activities according to provided designs and IET Wiring Regulations.
* Testing and inspecting electrical installations as per current IEE wiring regulations.
* Monitoring and ordering critical spares for electrical services.
* Other tasks as required by the site.
* This role will also support local and business zero carbon programs, working towards zero carbon in a strategic and lean manner where appropriate.
* Ensuring H&S standards are achieved across the contract.
What makes this role unique is testing and inspecting electrical installations across prison facilities in accordance with the 18th IEE wiring regulations. Prison Security Clearance will be required, with Amey supporting you through this process.
We want to hear from you if you have/are:
* Appropriate technical qualifications e.g., City & Guilds 2365 parts 1-3, BTEC, NVQ level 3 or above.
* BS7671 IET Wiring Regulations, specifically the 18th Edition.
* Experience in electrical maintenance, general distribution, installation, and testing.
* Knowledge of Electrical Systems and Electricity at Work Regulations.
* Ability to work at heights.
* Ability to work independently and use initiative.
Ideally, you will be qualified in the 18th Edition. If you currently hold only the 17th Edition, we will sponsor you to upgrade (terms apply). Experience in electrical maintenance within a commercial environment is preferred.
Additional desirable skills include IT skills, and experience in fire alarm and CCTV systems. Training will be provided if needed.
