Deputy Manager - Day Centre OperationsWe are seeking an experienced Deputy Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of a busy Day Centre, providing a safe, welcoming gateway to support for people facing multiple disadvantages.Salary: £32,439 - £35,909 per annum (rising incrementally with service)Location: Southend on Sea, EssexHours: 37 hours per week (rota including occasional evenings, weekends and bank holidays)Contract: PermanentClosing date: 12th May 2026About the roleReporting to the Service Manager, you will have operational responsibility for the smooth and effective running of a Day Centre that supports people experiencing homelessness and related challenges. You will provide visible, on-site leadership, ensuring high standards of safety, compliance and person-centred practice.Key responsibilities include:Overseeing daily operations of the Day Centre, creating a safe, inclusive and well-managed environmentLeading and supervising staff, volunteers and cleaning provisionManaging visitors, safeguarding processes and incident responsesCoordinating partner-led services, activities and advice sessions within the CentreTaking responsibility for health and safety, building compliance and premises managementOverseeing donations, resources and stock controlEnsuring accurate monitoring, recording and reporting of service activityActing as a key point of contact for partners and local community stakeholdersDeputising for senior management and supporting cross-cover across services when requiredThis role requires confidence in decision-making, a calm approach under pressure and the ability to support staff managing complex situations.About youYou will have experience working within homelessness, housing, social care or a related support setting, particularly with people who have multiple and complex needs. You will also bring:Experience of leading or supervising staff or volunteersConfidence managing incidents, safeguarding concerns and crisis situationsStrong knowledge of trauma-informed and psychologically informed practiceExcellent organisational and communication skillsA values-led, resilient and solution-focused leadership styleExperience managing a building-based or drop-in service is desirable.About the organisationThis organisation provides frontline support services to people experiencing homelessness and multiple disadvantage, working in partnership with local agencies and the community to create pathways into safety, stability and longer-term support.
