Offer description

Write a short description of your company, a boilerplate of the business, service or product that you offer. Include your business idea and the target audience. This text is primarily supposed to be descriptive, not selling.

A respected independent college in Durham is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Teacher of Mathematics to join its successful and well-resourced Maths department. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate mathematician to teach motivated learners in a setting that values academic excellence, strong subject scholarship and outstanding classroom practice.

The college offers a calm, purposeful learning environment with excellent facilities and a strong culture of aspiration. Students are engaged, respectful and ambitious, and class sizes are typically smaller, allowing teachers to provide high-quality feedback and stretch learners to achieve their best.

-----------------------------------

The Role

As Teacher of Mathematics, you will teach across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the opportunity to contribute to A-Level Mathematics (and potentially Further Mathematics) depending on experience and departmental need. The curriculum is carefully designed to build deep conceptual understanding alongside fluency, reasoning and problem-solving.

You will deliver lessons that:

* Explain mathematical concepts clearly and precisely, using modelling and worked examples

* Build fluency through purposeful practice and regular retrieval

* Develop reasoning through structured questioning and proof-style thinking

* Stretch and challenge high-attaining students while supporting those who need extra scaffolding

* Prepare students thoroughly for GCSE and A-Level examinations through exam technique and targeted practice

Students study a broad range of topics including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics and calculus (at A-Level), with a strong emphasis on depth of understanding and confident application.

You will contribute to shared planning, assessment and extension opportunities such as enrichment sessions, competitions and clubs.

-----------------------------------

The Department

The Mathematics department is an academically ambitious and collaborative team with a strong track record of excellent outcomes. Teachers work together to plan high-quality schemes of work, share resources and refine approaches that support consistent, high standards across year groups.

The department values:

* Strong subject knowledge and clear mathematical communication

* A culture where students are encouraged to think deeply and attempt challenging problems

* Consistent approaches to assessment and feedback that help students improve

* Stretch and enrichment, including problem-solving, competitions and wider maths thinking

Students are typically highly motivated and take pride in producing accurate, well-presented work.

-----------------------------------

The College

The college is known for its strong academic results and supportive pastoral care. Students benefit from a calm, respectful learning culture and a wide co-curricular programme that supports personal development alongside academic success.

Staff are supported through high-quality CPD, excellent resources and leadership that values professional expertise. Teachers are trusted to teach ambitiously and creatively while being supported by clear systems and strong collaboration.

-----------------------------------

What the College is Looking For

The successful candidate will:

* Hold QTS or an equivalent teaching qualification

* Have strong subject knowledge in Mathematics, with confidence across relevant key stages

* Deliver engaging, academically rigorous lessons that build deep understanding

* Use assessment effectively to secure progress and stretch high-attaining learners

* Contribute positively to departmental planning and enrichment

* Build strong, professional relationships with students and uphold high expectations

Applications are welcomed from experienced teachers and those earlier in their career who can demonstrate excellent subject knowledge and a commitment to high standards.

-----------------------------------

Why Join This College

* Teach motivated students in a calm, high-achieving environment

* Smaller class sizes and excellent resources

* Strong Maths department with excellent outcomes and a culture of scholarship

* High-quality professional development and supportive leadership

* Opportunities to contribute to enrichment, competitions and extension programmes

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Mathematics teacher who wants to inspire deep understanding, stretch ambitious learners and contribute to a thriving department — in a respected Durham independent college.
