Overview

We are seeking a Manager to lead our Economic Crime Unit (ECU), which is part of the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The successful candidate will lead a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals.

Responsibilities

* Provide strategic leadership for how we manage financial investigations to fulfil our obligations under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
* Lead and motivate two Team Leaders (one for the Asset Denial Team and one for the Money Laundering Investigations Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer; oversee performance and work delivery.
* Collaborate with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC).
* Influence at senior levels to ensure Environment Agency priorities are recognised by external enforcement agencies.
* Support the wider organisation in improving practices and understanding POCA; share lessons learned and contribute to changes in technical documentation; advise enforcement officers nationwide.
* Assist with continuing professional development and capability enhancement for the ECU team and individuals within it.


Team and Environment

The ECU comprises two teams — the Asset Denial Team and the Money Laundering Investigations Team — made up of Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers, and Crime Analysts. The unit is nationally dispersed and works with enforcement staff and partners across the country on serious, complex criminality involving organised crime networks.


Experience / Skills Required

* Exceptional leadership skills, ideally with experience leading a dispersed team; strong understanding of financial investigations and POCA.
* Experience working in the law enforcement sector with knowledge of the National Intelligence Model.
* Effective communication, including delivering feedback, managing performance, and building relationships with external stakeholders.
* Ability to work under pressure and prioritise a varied workload; identify areas for improvement and lead changes to working practices.
* Experience developing and enhancing team and individual capability.


Additional Information

* This is a hybrid role; you will work from home and your nearest office with travel across the country for meetings and operational duties.
