The Department of Gastroenterology in North Cumbria Hospitals is looking for an enthusiastic new colleague to join us on our journey to provide high quality endoscopy and gastroenterology for the future in an organisation committed to clinical leadership and medical education.
Bowel Cancer Screening has been provided at NCIC since 2008 as part of the Cumbria and Morecambe Bay Screening Service. We look to continue our quality service by recruiting an additional colonoscopist. You will join us at an exciting time following the opening of our new £15M, 5 room, State of the Art, JAG accredited Endoscopy Suite. A full range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including ERCP, are available.
We are looking for enthusiastic colleagues to expand our GI services in North Cumbria. This post, a replacement post (available due to retirement) is to support the Bowel Cancer Screening service. The successful candidate will contribute to dedicated Bowel Cancer Screening lists. For those interested, there will be opportunities to take on a leadership role within Bowel Cancer Screening and endoscopy services in general. In addition, there are 2 general gastroenterology posts funded to join our current team. The post holder will be required to support the GI bleeding rota.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for committed Doctors to become an integral part of the GI team. The post holder will provide dedicated colonoscopic screening lists and together with their gastroenterology colleagues will contribute to inpatient and outpatient care.
The gastroenterology consultant team share the responsibility of "Consultant of the Week" on a rotational basis to cover the GI inpatient work and contribute to the GI bleed rota. The team is supported by deanery trainees, Trust doctors and specialist nurses.
The post holder may be expected to fulfil some of their clinical commitments on other sites in the Trust.
We are passionate about teaching, and you will be able to play your part in teaching the next generation of doctors, nurses and other allied health professionals. You will have the opportunity to provide endoscopy training locally and to contribute to NETA - The Northern Endoscopy Training Academy. You will be involved in the recruitment of junior staff and to supervise their education, appraisal, and study leave. We will support you in keeping up to date on educational developments. If you are a new consultant, you will be asked to enrol on an educational supervisor accredited course by our medical education department. We have a growing experience and have been at the forefront of teaching and implementation of Physician Associate and Advanced Clinical Practitioners.

Qualifications and training
* Full GMC Registration
* CCST Specialist Registration (or will obtain within 6 months of interview date)
* Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR)
* To hold the MRCP (UK)
* Postgraduate qualification in gastroenterology (European Specialty Examination in Gastroenterology & Hepatology, MD, PhD or equivalent)
Skills and Experience
* Clinical experience and competence in gastroenterology.
* Ability to provide therapeutic endoscopy for GI bleeding.
* Screening Colonoscopy Level 2 Polypectomy
* Excellent communication skills with patients, colleagues, managers and other staff
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
* Screening Colonoscopy Level 3 Polypectomy
* Subspecialty expertise in gastroenterology or endoscopy
